From generation to generation there have been different methods of influencing, particularly from adults to young adults, about the dangers of alcohol. In theater there are types and styles of performance that have evolved over time and when this change occurs, it is the result of a change in society too. There are many differences between Augustus Boal and Aristotle regarding theatrical representation, but when you bring some real life examples and how they demonstrate them morally, you can show this contrast even more. One possible reasoning could certainly be the time period, and as I mentioned before, society has changed substantially over time. The focus of this essay will distinguish the difference between the past and present view of alcohol through the effectiveness of theatrical influence. There are many differences in today's society compared to previous generations, particularly when it comes to recreational alcohol use. The question asked is about why the influence of alcohol use has changed over time using Boal and Aristotle as prime examples. The Greek philosopher Aristotle believed that theater must exist to provide a representation of the ideals of the world. Although in much of "Aristotle's Poetics" he primarily discusses tragedy and epic poetry, he discusses spectators and artists. It gives a decision on how the artists should convey a message to the audience and how the audience should receive the message that is given. The basis of Aristotelian tragedy focuses on the representation of ideals, on his vision of traditional mimesis. This means that he intends for the public to be able to recognize the ideals that people should strive for. He presents it in a way that the scene…center of the card…works. The type of style demonstrated by Boal consists of a more interactive method of communication that allows the audience to interact with the artists to fully receive the message being conveyed. Forum theater is the theatrical style influenced by Augusto Boal. He describes this type of Western theater in his book entitled "Theatre of the Oppressed". This type of theater is designed to teach people how their world changes. There seems to be a lack of appreciation on Aristotle's part for the way in which art often progresses precisely by overturning the laws assumed by a previous generation. In conclusion, there are many differences in today's society compared to previous generations, particularly regarding the recreational use of alcohol by young adults. As mentalities change over time, the style of theater must also change.
