Emmeline Pankhurst: Why We Are Militant Women's suffrage has been a very serious thing in the history of America. It was also very popular in America and other countries. More and more women began to express their opinions and express their thoughts on women's suffrage as the era emerged. Their opinions mostly focused on how much power they don't have compared to men in their countries. The men in their society had so much power over them and everything that had to do with their environment. This injustice bothered many women and they felt they should do something about it. Women were treated differently because they were not men. Whether they were male or female caused them a lot of problems and it wasn't fair. Women couldn't vote because of this. Gender is the main topic of this discussion. Women began fighting these injustices after World War II. They began to fight to be able to vote with the men in their society. This is the way it should always have been. These men had no problems in their society. Is it because they have always had the power? Maybe so. However, this was the problem because women felt they should be able to do everything men could do, equally. Women gave speeches to audiences, hoping to gain “approval” to vote in the company of men. They also wrote letters to people who held greater power over them explaining and demanding answers as to why they felt it was right for women to be treated differently because of their gender. Along with the speeches and writings, on a more physical and violent level, there were riots and marches. The plan for all the riots, marches, speeches and writings is to... middle of paper... men don't have it as hard as women when it comes to their rights and all that. She asks, “How is it, then, that some of you feel nothing but ridicule and contempt…for women who fight for the exact same thing?” Many men during this time, and some still today, thought that women were "too beautiful and too delicate" to be involved in things like government or politics. Men felt that they should be the ones to handle all the power and that women should do what a woman is supposed to do, like housework and things like that. This speech gave women the opportunity to speak up and speak out about the rights they deserved in 1900. This allowed people in society and even the government to better understand what women were going through and why they deserved their rights, just like the men in that period..
