Happy endings help leave the reader comforted and confident that things can work out in the world, no matter how it is set. It can be done by two lovers who are finally able to be together after a fight, the end of some sort of devastating war, or simply a balance restored, with good prevailing over evil. Especially when dealing with Shakespeare, any kind of happy ending can be very refreshing for those who often watch or read the famous playwright's works. In Shakespeare's play The Tempest, a lasting response develops with a happy ending through moral reconciliation. Knowing that evil corrects itself, without the death of a superior person or the interference of something great, leaves the reader with the feeling that good can conquer all and that evil will be defeated. The literary thought of the great chain of being helps us understand that balance can be restored if a king is put back in his place. This happy ending is even more comforting because it develops the sense that everything is restored to what it should be, with a legitimate ruler, instead of a ruler who comes to power through what was thought to be murder and corruption. The Tempest leaves the reader comforted by a happy ending through the reestablishment of balance in the great chain of being with the rightful and good king returned to power, the union of two people truly in love, and the fall of plans. of all those who have bad intentions in the show and their spiritual reevaluation when they return to good. All these fortunate events help Prospero understand that he does not need magic to live the rest of his life happily, and can instead rest assured that he will be able to die in peace and all will be well in his world... ... middle of paper . .. the play, which says that "Every third thought will be (its) grave" (Act 5, scene 1, line 313). Prospero is, as Fay Weldon says, “even with himself, even in death.” Although Prospero does not die during the play, he openly tells the reader or audience how happy he is with how his life has turned out, especially now that his daughter has found happiness and protection and his power has been restored, his brother seeing evil . in his ways. As in many cases, Prospero must resort to spiritual help to regain his power as Duke of Milan and find balance in the great chain of being. However, once he has found balance and good has defeated evil, he vows to free his spirit and release control of the magic and connections to that world so he can die in peace, as content as his life is ending that he accepts death and ends the play by preparing for it.
