Topic > School Safety: Fire Drills - 1546

Across the nation, millions of students attend unsafe schools. Whether it's physical safety or emotional safety, everyone is affected. During school, more than 3.2 million students are victims of bullying each year. This is an issue that will be addressed in the area of social and emotional safety. MM KK School is given only three fire drills a year when state policy says there should be one a month. This issue will be addressed in the Security section of the tutorial. In addition to social and emotional safety and drill safety, topics related to building safety, concussions and technology safety will also be addressed. The theme of school safety is the main objective of the Citizen Project. Project Citizen is a way for seventh graders to help improve their community. This year the theme at the center of attention is safety in schools. To better understand this topic, students watched websites and videos. To be successful in Project Citizen, students must work hard, do thorough research, work in teams (for the group portion of Project Citizen), and be organized. To stay organized, students created a document where they kept track of the information they needed, as well as helpful websites. Additionally, they had measures to further stay organized. The first step in this process was to identify the problem. In this case the problem is school safety. The next step is to study this problem. This was achieved by accessing specific websites. The third phase of the process was to evaluate possible solutions. This was achieved by looking at our research and finding ideas for each subtopic. The last step in the process is to develop public policy ideas and choose the best solution. This was done by putting the different policies in different situations to see which... center of the card... suffers because of this. If a student commits suicide, they will never experience what life has to offer. If this problem is not addressed, suicide rates could rise even more than they already have. In 2001 there were 30,622 suicides. In two thousand and ten there were 38,364 suicides. This is over seven thousand more people. If this increases, we will reach 40,000 by two thousand and sixteen. This cannot happen. This issue is often mentioned in the community, but never much is done about it. There are some states that have done something about it. In Washington there is a law that prohibits bullying. The same law is in effect in Illinois. This law has not been of much help, most likely due to lack of enforcement. Many parents have complained about bullying at their school, but little has been done. It is only when a suicide occurs that action is taken.
