Artemisia Gentileschi is known as the most influential painter of the Renaissance. He was born in Rome on 8 July 1593 to Orazio Gentileschi and Prudentia Montone. Although she was the eldest of five children, she was the only one who showed artistic talent and interests, which led to her father's decision to begin tutoring her. Having grown up with an artist father, it is clear that Artemisia learned the basics of the art world from her father Orazio. It was only in 1614, "with the support of powerful patrons and fellow artists, [that] Artemisia [became] the first woman to be admitted to the Accademia del Disegno in Florence", and it was there that she met Galileo Galilei. Interestingly, due to the related dates, it is believed that he learned the parabolic path of bullets from him, explaining the very realistic bullet blood gushing from Holofernes' neck in his famous Judith Slaying Holofernes (1620).
