Nyjil ThomasMrs. ImmediateWorld History Essay3/29/14Industrial Trials and TribulationsDuring the first half of the Industrial Revolution there were many examples of terrible filthy living conditions, gruesome working conditions changing over time and the loss of the traditional way of life, these examples were observed by reformers and doctors in all ways. These reformers and doctors are: Charles Thackrah, Andrew Ure, Edwin Chadwick, Friedrich Engels. The revolution itself gave us mass production and machinery, but it also gave disease and caused health problems, gave life that unsatisfying feeling, and caused great damage to the world. The Industrial Revolution represented a huge change in manufacturing where machines took the place of tools. Steam and other sources took the place of human labor and working animals; skilled workers were replaced by lower-paid unskilled workers. The Industrial Revolution meant that work that was done in the home by family members, such as spinning thread, was done with the help of large, powerful machines in factories, such as the first textile and cotton mills. Within these living conditions stated by Edwin Chadwick “Poor Law Commissioners on an Inquiry into the Sanitary Condition of the Laboring Population of Great Britian (1842)” Chadwick states that “many of the diseases which appear in Great Britain are caused by class worker, mainly from the decomposition of animals and plant substances, from humidity and dirt, from close and overcrowded homes, whether you live in separate houses, in rural villages, in small towns, in larger cities. Chadwick also talked about how there are more deaths from dirt and bad ventilation than deaths from wars. In all this... middle of paper... and the loss of the traditional way of life, these examples were observed by reformers and doctors in all ways. These reformers and doctors are: Charles Thackrah, Andrew Ure, Edwin Chadwick, Friedrich Engels. From the improvement of health and living and working conditions this led to the industrial revolution. The Industrial Revolution was a time of great imagination and improvement. Inventions that allowed new products to be created created demand that caused a continuation. It was almost never the intent of inventors, scientists and other brilliant people to create such a chasm between the working class and the industrial machine, but it was created nonetheless and in some way it has shaped the future and how we operate now and mass production. of certain things and how safety and health are our main concerns already in the 19th century history repeats itself.
