Topic > None of this is right by Richard Rodriguez - 664

After long years of suffering, degradation and different types of discrimination suffered by the disadvantaged group of people, the "Affirmative Action Act" was finally passed and implemented for first on September 24, 1965. The central purpose of the Affirmative Action Act is to combat racial inequality and ensure equal civil rights for every citizen of the United States, especially minorities. But what does true equality mean? Is an opportunity for everyone? In an article titled “None of this is fair,” the author, Richard Rodriguez, explains how his ethnicity did not become an obstacle but, on the contrary, the law became advantageous. However, Mr. Richard Rodriguez realized the injustice of “Affirmative Action” to the people who most deserve all the opportunities they were given. Through Mr. Rodriguez's article, he will demonstrate to the reader both the favorable and negative reaction of people to Affirmative Action, that even though the program was created with the intention of providing equality for every single citizen, not everyone will be happy, happy and benefit from the law. Discrimination is still a chronic global problem and drastic inequalities still exist at the moment. Therefore, the Affirmative Action Act is an important tool for many minorities, especially women and people of color, as this program provides equal educational and professional opportunities for every qualified individual living in the United States. Without this program, it would have been impossible for “minority students” to obtain a higher education. Furthermore, without Affirmative Action, a fair opportunity to have a higher level career... middle of the paper... majority, therefore, the example of Mr. Rodriguez's friend's situation indicates that there is still inequality even though the program had already been approved. The Affirmative Action Act was created as a solution to the long history of animosity toward minorities and to eradicate segregation between minorities and majorities. The program has certainly helped many underprivileged people living in the United States. Affirmative Action has encouraged many individuals, especially women and groups of people from different ethnic groups, to have hopes and dreams thanks to the right opportunities offered by the program. However, even if the purpose of the Affirmative Action Act is to guarantee equal human rights to all citizens of the United States, there will always be a group of people who will oppose it, because each individual has different notions and needs.
