PROPOSAL TO CHANGE SMOKING POLICY ON CAMPUSINTRODUCTIONPurposeThis proposal is to improve the campus environment. Non-smokers don't like the smell of nicotine, so it's their right to have a smoke-free environment where they pay tons of thousands of dollars in tuition every year, in many cases every semester. It is designed to encourage better health for all. Scope This report covers our campus policies. Also compare the policy to the policies of other colleges and schools. There are few ways we can address this growing problem and improve the atmosphere around us. BACKGROUND General Information Hundreds of new students are admitted to our campus each year. At the beginning of the year we are given the student handbook, which includes school policies. Most students do not read the book or only read it once. We need to start encouraging students to read smoking and tobacco use policies on and around university property. Most students do not smoke, but the other half of the population does so due to smoking experience. They start smoking in high school. Research For this problem, I decided to talk to some smokers, non-smokers, teachers and nurses. Most of them had the same opinion about smoking on campus. I also used the Internet to find the policies of our campus and other colleges around us. Some of them had very strict policies on smoking and tobacco use on their campuses. When I looked at the smoking policy on our campus, I found that it had not been updated since 2006. This is a long time that an issue of this magnitude has been overlooked. Findings/Issues Through my research, I have come to some ways we can improve the greenery on our campus. I also ran into the issue of cigarettes... middle of paper... smoking-only parking lots away from campus buildings. They can smoke there whenever they want without jeopardizing the health of others. As proposed before, we can create “smoking huts” at the end of the parking lot.7. We can advise students to use e-cigarettes instead of traditional cigarettes.8. Like many of the nation's major universities, we may ban smoking on campus altogether. This proposal is less likely to pass, but as a non-smoker, this is the best way to make our campus environment fresh and clean. CONCLUSION Speaking as a non-smoker, this problem is very serious for us. We must certainly respect smokers' choice to smoke, but they must respect ours too. Not many people enjoy the smell or burn of nicotine. These proposals can certainly help clean up our community and provide a better environment for future generations.
