Topic > Contact: the conflict between science and religion

The conflict between science and religion has been seen over the years as a great conflict. Through the film Contact directed by Robert Zemeckis I will explore in more detail how the film resolves the age-old conflict between science and religion through the myth of the hero. ¬¬The film Contact focuses on the discovery of the beginnings of the human race and their first confrontation with extraterrestrials. We understand that the film's protagonist, Ellie, is on a journey to find meaning in her life. In the film he says that "For as long as I can remember, I have been looking for some reason why we are here, what are we doing here, who are we? Whether this is the chance to find out even a small part of that answer I don't know, I think it is worth a human life. Through understanding the conflict between science and religion we can observe that there are still some similarities in both to the importance of testing one's idea as a starting point for starting an idea or mythology and science are understood through critical thinking. Both authorities argue their point of view, and both rarely question authorities unless there is clear evidence to the contrary of accepted ideas. Let's not forget the differences they have that create conflict between them. Scientific tests are an exercise while praying that the use of common sense is two valid levels of observation of an idea in theology for mythology. While religion reuses its myths, science generally ignores them when they prove false. Science is a natural science that can be defined as the socio-historical process of understanding the...... middle of paper...... god created the universe but decided never to prove his exists or simply doesn't exist at all and we created it so that we wouldn't have to feel so small and alone." While science on the other hand is trying to find a simple explanation to why and how the universe was created. There is also a conflict between science and religion but all is forgotten when everyone gathers in one place to find the truth about only one thing, the first confrontation between extraterrestrials and the human race, as humans (religious or not) we are all looking for an answer as to where we come from, why we are here and what we are doing here. the conflict between science and religion is clearly visible in the film, but even though they work better when they work together, they both believe that there is something bigger than us somewhere in the universe
