Who knew that the most opposite people could become one in the same? Khaled Hosseini's The Kite Runner shows a great deal of love, betrayal, and friendship towards two completely different people. Amir, the son of a rich man in Kabul, Afghanistan, forms a friendship with his servant Hassan. Amir and Hassan have a rather complicated relationship for two originally very different personalities. Hassan has strong feelings for Amir, but Amir never admits their friendship due to their difference in social standing. As the years pass, Amir finds himself in a difficult situation, during which his actions forever affect their lives, leading them to follow two separate paths. Looking back, the elderly and wise Amir looks down on the choices he made as a child that negatively alter his friendship with Hassan. Throughout his life, Amir makes choices based on fear and guilt that result in a life full of shame, until he is ultimately redeemed. The relationship between Amir and Hassan can be described as a set of opposites at the beginning of the novel, but as the novel progresses, it is shown that they could not be more similar and, ultimately, that they are the same. guys, Amir and Hassan had fun doing everything together; however, Amir never considers him and Hassan friends, and their personalities appear to be very different at this early stage in their lives. Amir is a Pashtun and Hassan is a Hazara, which means they have opposite social positions, but Amir still spends most of the first twelve years of his life with Hassan. Despite his social position and childhood experiences, Hassan was both physically and mentally stronger than Amir according to Amir's father, who said... middle of paper... down with a kite in an attempt to teach Sohrab about kite running, and thus on taking over Hassan's previous position as a kite runner. This is the key moment where Amir is shown to have transformed into Hassan. After many years of struggling with the past, Amir has overcome his mind and become a better person. At the beginning of the novel, Amir and Hassan were complete opposites, but as the novel progresses, it is shown how they are one. the same. When Amir was younger, he did not have Hassan's caring and faithful qualities, but once called upon to take charge of an important situation, he quickly acquired those qualities. Amir has overcome his past difficulties to become more mature and acquire those qualities necessary to live an honest life. Hassan brought out Amir's best qualities and their unique friendship changed Amir's life forever.
