Topic > The Pros and Cons of Euthanasia and Suicide - 1112

Euthanasia and suicide are very serious topics of discussion in the world we live in today. Euthanasia is a choice that an individual may or may not make in life. It is when someone or the individual thinks that it is better to die than to suffer in a hospital bed or barely live. It especially happens when their life depends on nutrients coming through an HIV tube, or a breathing mask, etc. Completely relieve pain by pressing the switch. By flipping the switch on the machine, everything that helps you survive will no longer work and you will die peacefully. Suicide is an increasingly discussed and growing topic in society, particularly in Montreal, in recent years. In 2011, Canada ranked in the World Suicide Survey at 67 out of 192 (world life expectancy). Suicide has different approaches for everyone in the world. Everyone who has committed or attempted suicide has a reason why. “The warning signs of suicide could be as follows. Difficulty concentrating, loss of interest in things that entertain the individual, use of drugs or alcohol, etc.”(Dr.Davidson,3). The Catholic Church sees euthanasia actions as a sin for the church. Pope John Paul II quotes “Euthanasia is a serious violation of God's law, since it is the deliberate and morally unacceptable killing of a human person” (Paul II,4). The Catholic Church also believes that suicide is a "seriously wrong action", explains Fr. William Saunders (P.Saunders,5). The Church believes that the actions of suicide and euthanasia are wrong and sinful. Because the Church considers human life as "Sacred". It has more value than anything else. (Catholic Church, 6) "I agree with euthanasia, when a person is at the point where they are terminally ill and in extreme pain and have...... middle of paper......s wise, I was not for suicide or euthanasia. After doing the research and reflection, my mind has changed a little. I still believe that it is wrong to commit and encourage suicide, but now I am in favor of euthanasia .Before the essay I didn't fully understand the idea and concept behind euthanasia. I know growing up I thought it was wrong because my dog was put down, but I also didn't know all the information about euthanasia and about suicide from websites and my parents. I agree with all statements in favor of euthanasia and against suicide. In conclusion, it is morally wrong to commit suicide and euthanasia. Because the church sees both of these actions as a sin for the Catholic church. I agree and disagree with some of the arguments put forward by the Church, but these cannot change or influence the decision of the Catholic Church today.
