Since women had the right to work as employees in the workplace, they have become victims of discrimination. Discrimination is the practice of treating a person or group of people differently from other people (Webster, 2013). Thousands of women have suffered discrimination in the workplace because they are pregnant, disabled or of the opposite sex. It's crazy to think that someone would fire a woman because she got pregnant and needed some work adjustments ("Pregnancy and Parenting"). A woman faces many difficulties to give birth to children and men will never understand the complications a mother faces during pregnancy. Unfortunately, men think that pregnant women can't work, which is totally wrong. Discrimination at work is a sensitive issue. Most people, if not all, have experienced some sort or form of it and ignored it, quit their job, or been fired from their job. Women tend to be more emotional than men and when they are judged and discriminated against they are immediately offended. Furthermore, the fact that women receive less income than men for the same work is almost unbelievable. It is very important to worry about the problem because it is constantly increasing throughout the United States. It bothers me that women are paid less than men because they have the same skills and work ethic as men, but are viewed differently. According to AAUW, women earn 77% of what men earn. This rate has not changed since 2002 (Hill, 2013). Statistics show that women will never earn as much as men due to the thought that they will never be comparable to men (Williams, 2013). There are many forms of bad behavior based on prejudice, but the number one thing that seems to affect women the most... ... middle of document ......d October 31, 1978 by Congress. This was a modified addition to the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that stated that pregnant women should be treated equally as others. “on the basis of pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions shall be treated equally for all employment-related purposes” (EEOC, 2013). Conclusion It is incredible to me that discrimination still exists. Women have always been considered inferior to men, but in today's world it seems that the situation is changing, but not in a way that benefits us. In my opinion as a woman women should be more respected than men because they are the key to life! Yes, a man helped reproduce, but a woman carried you for nine months and brought you into this world, so why disrespect her? I hope that one day the discrimination against working women will end and that everyone, both men and women, will be treated equally.
