Thousands of people are affected by a lack of school safety in schools across the nation. Students around the world are attending more dangerous schools than expected. This is a growing concern everywhere and schools must improve, otherwise they risk being unsafe. Whether it's buildings, drills, concussions, social safety or technology, schools must improve to reduce the risk of accidents. Project Citizen is an effort to improve our community one step at a time. Project Citizen requires a lot of research for specific sections of our core problem. These are called tasks. Once all the tasks are done, everyone writes a paper that summarizes the main problem. Then, everyone gives a presentation in groups. The keys to success in Project Citizen are to work hard, research well, work as a team, and, above all, be organized. The steps of the Citizen Project are: identify a problem in the school or community, research the problem, evaluate possible solutions, then develop public policy ideas and choose the best solution. Project Citizen's main goal is to improve our school/community to make it a better place. This year the hope is to make our school safer and less accident-prone. To have a safe school you need to know the terms to understand their importance. Safety means the condition of being protected or not being able to cause dangers, risks or injuries. Security is the state of freedom from danger or threat. These two terms are synonymous together with well-being, protection and freedom from danger. "Safety first" is "Safety always". says Charles M. Hayes. This shows how safety must always be present, because you never know when an accident may occur. School Saf... middle of paper... check your head and make sure it's safe before you get up. If an intruder enters, find your teacher, follow his directions, remain silent and act quickly, close all doors and windows, turn off the lights, hide in a closet, locker, etc., DO NOT make noise and Don't come out until told. Many intruders who have entered the school have had tragic consequences for the school and the community. Some of these events include the Columbine school shooting, when a bomb was placed in the school cafeteria which exploded and shocked the community. Next, there was the shooting at Pine Middle School, where a student shot and injured two other students. These shootings are very scary and we need to make sure it never happens to us. All teachers and staff know the drill procedures, but we need to let everyone in the school know. All in all, the exercises are very important to know and be able to perform.
