I have had the opportunity to participate in the Community Health Service Project at Temple University Hospital over the past few weeks. Through this experience I have found that service, which is an act of helping or assisting others, has changed my perception from helping others to being able to use my skills and knowledge in different ways to achieve better health outcomes. According to Mahatma Gandhi, to be the best person you can be, you should focus on finding ways to serve others. By serving others, you discover more about yourself and help others in the process. Therefore, I knew it would be a different experience where you will be able to apply your knowledge in the real world. This is what I'm looking forward to doing in the near future. Doing service projects is a great way to get involved with the local community and through this project our mission was to familiarize you with the Healthy People 2020 goals and objectives such as access to health healthcare, health literacy, promotion of health and disease prevention. Temple University Hospital operates a program called the Temple Advantage Program, which enrolls patients based on their chronic conditions and frequency of admissions to the hospital's emergency room within 6 months. This program provides better access to the health services patients need, such as to address any issues with medical insurance coverage for prescription drugs. In doing so, they are trying to overcome barriers such as health insurance, lack of availability, high costs, lack of insurance coverage, limited language access, which are Healthy People 2020 goals for better access to health care. Additionally, each patient is supported with a com… half of the paper… percentage of patients being treated for hypertension who do not have their blood pressure under control because they do not have regular follow-up. Being a student and having a little experience working at retail pharmacies, I had seen many people come to local pharmacies to pick up their prescription and check their blood pressure. During my tenure, I have seen people approach the pharmacist and ask what that number means. Interventions carried out by pharmacists with simple conversations about blood pressure readings went further to learn more about the use of medications and follow up visits with the GP. Therefore, these small interventions with patients will have a huge impact on health and the role of the pharmacist in this is amazing. This is a perfect opportunity to involve patients in your own care. I would like to work in these contexts.
