Japan and Sweden have quite long life expectancy rates within their countries. Life expectancy in Japan in 2013 was 84.19 while in Sweden it was 81.28. Life expectancy in the United States was 78.62. (CIA.gov, 2014) Why are the times so long in Japan and Sweden? Better healthcare, lifestyles and healthier lifestyles both contribute to why. Japanese people eat healthier than Americans. Fish is the main meat in Japan. Fish has lower cholesterol content than red meat, which tends to be the primary choice in the United States. Japanese people tend to eat less dairy products than Americans. Milk has a high number of calories and makes you fat. Rice is a common staple food in Japan. It is filling and low in fat. Americans use rice, but potatoes and pasta are also common staples in the United States. The Japanese eat a lot of soy, that is, tofu and sprouts.
