For all of this to happen for students, an IEP must be written correctly. There are many requirements for what must be included in an IEP. There are many things that need to be included in an IEP. There are obvious things like student name and identifying information. Also, the start date of the special services, the location where the services will be provided and the duration of their extension. Locations where these services may be administered include schools, homes and/or hospitals. The age at which services can begin is at 3 years old and end at 21 years old. Another thing that will be included in the IEP is a statement of the child's current academic achievement and functional performance. This may include how a child's disability affects his or her performance in general education classes or how a child may not be able to participate in certain activities. After identifying the child's problems in the general education curriculum, goals can be set. These goals include both academic and functional goals designed to enable the child to progress through the general education curriculum.
