McDonalds: Cause and EffectThere are over 14,000 McDonald's restaurants in the United States and more than 33,000 worldwide ("Number of McDonald's..."). Even though people think they are having delicious food, they don't know what they are actually consuming. McDonald's attracts its customers with cheap prices and convenience, creating easy access for people to purchase food. McDonald's should offer healthier options because its food contains harmful chemicals, causes obesity and risks disease. The chemicals in McDonald's food are used to enhance flavor, but they do much more. This means that McDonald's incorporates unnecessary ingredients into its foods that have been proven to cause several diseases, proving that their initial purpose is not to promote a healthy lifestyle, but to produce a successful business. Even a simple hamburger bun is made up of unnatural ingredients. The sandwich is made from azodicarbonamide, a chemical found in yoga mats, shoe rubber, and synthetic leather ("That Chemical Subway Ditched..."). It has been approved for consumption by the FDA in the United States, but has not been accepted in Europe or Australia ("That Chemical Subway Ditched.."). This fact should worry fast food consumers, as they are ingesting an additive considered illegal in other countries. Today, Vani Hari, created a petition to ban the use of azodicarbonamide ("That abandoned chemical underground..."). This petition currently has 75,000 signatures ("That Chemical Subway Abandoned..."). Not only are the buns unhealthy, but so are the wrappers that protect the burger.
