It is well known that there have always been people committing crimes, but there wasn't always a police force to stop them. The word itself (Police) indicates the officers responsible for peacekeeping or employed for this purpose. The history of the British police varies more than that of other countries and even today their appearance is nothing like that of other police forces in the world. It all started around 2000 years ago when the Saxons introduced their own form of policing to Britain and we see how it has diversified over the years. As mentioned above, the police were not always around, the first evidence of the police was brought to British law enforcement in 1361. but let's take a look further back in time, when “the people were the police”. Since the crimes were there, people had to take actions to maintain their position. Then they decided that a person at that time called “tything” would be responsible for one hundred people of their village/town and that there would be one man responsible for all the “tythings”, the so-called “Sherif”. Over the years this system has changed a lot and another similar system has differentiated itself from it. Instead of letting a few people take care of the village, they later decided to hold an election to select a person who will serve for a year without any salary. That person's job was to keep his district/region away from crime and he had to work with the local judges. After some time, the so-called “Guard” group was added, made up of people paid to guard gates, streets, etc. But by the end of the 18th century both systems failed and were no longer used. Furthermore, everything stimulated the formulation of the “New Police”. At the time of the industrial revolution, the investigators arrived in the streets of Lo...... middle of paper ......n. It was really difficult to make sure that the police behaved according to the rules, many officers were arrested for misbehaving while on duty. During the 1900s the police force grew by 16,000 officers, they began to obey the rules and fight crimes more sufficiently and therefore the number of crimes decreased dramatically. The name of the police was changed to “Metropolitan Police Service”. The uniforms were left almost the same: they still could not have a gun but had to wear the duty belt which contains radio, handcuffs, gloves and pepper spray. To summarize, we can see that the police force has gone through a long history to be established as it is now and will most likely change even more in the future. The Metropolitan Police Service still exists to this day, only the main difference is that now there is not only a policeman but also a policewoman.
