Naimul Mannan 3/26/14805 SSExit Project: Rough Draft of the Watergate Scandal Throughout history, America has experienced its ups and downs as it progressed as a nation. By trusting our leaders, like our government and, of course, our president, we run together as a democracy and progress towards a better future. But there was an incident where a president tarnished the name of the trustworthy president label. His name was Richard M. Nixon. Our 37th President is said to be involved in the infamous Watergate scandal. So the question we ask ourselves is: what impact did the Watergate scandal have on America? Told from the present, the Watergate scandal has proven to be a controversial event in US history. But, in the eyes of the public, it served as a life lesson for America. Guided question no. 1: What was the cause/reason behind the Watergate scandal? It all started from the beginning on June 17, 1972. Frank Willis, a security guard at the Watergate Building, located in Washington DC, discovered something that caught his attention. There was apparently a piece of tape on the locking mechanism of the door leading to the stairs. The suspects overpowered the young security officer and he phoned the Metropolitan Police Department. Three officers began searching the building looking for any signs of invasion. Connecting the dots, they realized that the Democratic National Committee had booked the 6th floor. Using this information, the three agents went up to the sixth floor and, to their surprise, found five men in suits and surgical gloves filing documents in the office of party vice president Stanley Griegg. The five were soon arrested and took away... the nation we all desire. And once again we will face almost similar obstacles. While not quite like the Watergate scandal, humans will always make mistakes. And together, it's just a matter of how to react and keep the conflict at hand. And like now (in modern times), we really need it now. We've all heard about how the United States and Russia may attack each other right now, but we as a country must remain strong. If our president falls, we must remain strong. Even though Watergate had a negative impact on our country, we can still consider it a good lesson for America. After all, by making mistakes we become stronger and ensure we don't make them again. Therefore demonstrate that the Watergate scandal overall had a negative effect on our nation but that in the eyes of some it was for the better of the nation.
