From deep in a dark cave on the opposite side of Galilee, in the land of the Gadarenes, came the most horrible cry. The cry was an audible signal to all travelers to keep away from the haunted graves. Those who knew better feared the dark figure that lurked there hidden among the rocks. Stories circulated that told the story of an unbridled madman who could not be held prisoner. With Herculean strength he had repeatedly broken every restraint imposed by his captors. Not only did he easily free himself from their tight confines of shackles and chains, but he had become an unpredictable madman on the loose. It was the demons who had pushed him into the barren desert. He had long been possessed by evil spirits. He had often uttered the most blood-curdling sounds from the depths of his assigned abyss. His cries resound throughout the land. Unclean spirits often seized him with exasperating force and tortured him. He was like a puppet hanging on strings, constantly preyed upon by invisible entities. They took great pleasure in having deep wounds cut into their flesh with jagged rocks and sharp-edged stones. One day something unusual happened to the demoniac of Gardara. He left his dark graves and entered the light of the sun. He had the most terrible face. In a bizarre way he had decided to run naked towards the boat that had just landed on the shore. What did he hope to achieve with his naked appearance? A closer look revealed a twisted and contorted face with a body that contained many bloody bruises and deep scars. Not only did it look horrible, but it also smelled bad. It smelled like the stench of death. The demoniac was running, spotting a man... middle of paper... unless they found a man or woman to inhabit. We also learn that an exorcised man may actually be worse off than when he was first possessed. The story goes on to reveal that seven other spirits, more evil than the first, arrived with the first demon and returned to exorcise the man's body and create a new home for themselves. The last state of the exorcised became worse than the first. It is a fact that we must remember that demons outside the human body are not at ease, but wander through barren places, seeking rest but not finding it. How thirsty they must be outside someone's body. Demons somehow attach themselves to a host and remain inside. To find a desirable host, demons have a criterion for establishing residency. It must be empty, swept and garnished. For them, a body that meets these conditions is the most tempting and seductive home to enter.
