The idea of individualism is that employees have their own judgment whether to maintain or use their own techniques that allow employees to handle business management and negotiate their own salaries and bonuses. (Ian Kessler, John Purcell, 2003) Individualists may ignore group interests if conflict occurs within the group. Alternatively, the collectivist will search the group to see if there is any well-being to which he belongs, which may also ignore his personal interests. (Wagner, 1995) While individualism directs management on how to manage individual employees, collectivism encourages management to address and manage collective and representative institutions.
