Writing assignment no. 3: Federalist no. 10 The main problem that Madison addresses in this essay is that Madison believed that factions could be dangerous, that is, violent and could cause harm. One of the strongest arguments in favor of the Constitution establishes a government very capable of controlling these factions. Madison defines factions as a group of people who come together to protect and advance their economic interests and political opinions. According to Madison, factions can be majority or minority. These factions work against each other, ultimately leading to working against the public interest. Fundamentally, factions are political parties, because people act based on common passions or interests. Madison mentions two ways to solve/control the faction problem: remove its causes or control its effects. There are therefore two ways to remove faction causes.
