While earning my bachelor's degree in biological sciences and clinical laboratory sciences, I gained significant experience in both clinical and laboratory settings. I spent a summer volunteering at the SHARING Clinic, a clinic founded to provide healthcare to underserved populations in south Omaha, Nebraska. I drew the patient's blood to screen for diabetes, high cholesterol and other suspicious conditions. Additionally, I volunteered at the RESPECT Clinic, providing patients with confidential testing and treatment for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases. By volunteering at clinics, I learned firsthand about the demographic and socioeconomic factors of public health. It was also my first exposure to health inequities in the United States. Now I ask myself, how can I help eliminate them both nationally and nationally
