The United States receives more imports from China than any other country. During 2007, U.S. companies recalled millions of products made in China because they posed safety risks. Products included toys, pet food, toothpaste and tires. There was talk that the United States would stop all imports from China. Although there have been numerous recalls of Chinese-made products due to safety risks, the United States should not stop importing from China. In 2007, one of the Chinese manufactured products withdrawn from the market were children's toys. They were recalled because they were said to cause lead poison in children. The toys contained contaminated paint that contained excessive levels of lead. Immediately after learning of the lead poison, toy companies such as Fisher-Price and Mattel recalled millions of their products. Many American children have been affected by lead poison. There were lawsuits going on. Chinese manufacturers said the reason they used the paint was because it cost a third of the price of safe paints. Additionally, toys were not the only Chinese-made products to be recalled in 2007. Additionally, there was a huge recall of Chinese-made pet food in March 2007. The pet food was contaminated with melamine. Melamine is an organic base and trimer of cyanamide and large exposure can cause cancer or reproductive harm. Toothpaste was also recalled along with the pet food. Diethylene glycol, a component of antifreeze, has been found in toothpaste. Additionally, 450,000 pickup, SUV and van tires made in China were recalled. They were recalled as it was revealed that the Chinese manufacturer had stopped including a safe... half paper...... US trading with China suggests the country will stop importing only some products but not all . It has been suggested that the United States continue to import products from China such as clothes, shoes, and bags, but stop importing toys, tires, and pet food. Although there are some who believe that the United States should stop importing products made in China due to the security risks, there is very strong evidence that shows that the United States should not stop. Bottom line, the United States should not import products made in China because the country would lose money. In fact, the country would end up paying more for the products if it manufactured them in the United States instead of buying them from China at a very low price. Furthermore, the disruption of trade from China will increase the country's debt.
