With the rapid advancement of technology, bullying has become a harmful act to our youth both physically and mentally that cannot be ignored. What makes cyberbullying such a serious problem is that it has been “[i]dentified that cyberbullying can occur at any time, day or night. This causes many victims to feel trapped when they know they could receive a harassing message every time they turn on their cell phone or go online.” Twyman et al (185). What was once simply bullying has now become cyberbullying – it is not a rite of passage, it should not be taken lightly, it must be prevented and stopped. Cyberbullying is defined by the Cyberbullying Research Center as “Intentional and repeated harm inflicted through computers, cell phones, and other electronic devices” (Patchin). What was previously considered "playground bullying" is no longer limited to the playground or a certain age group, it is now estimated that bullying has increased in all aspects of life, including the workplace, and usually is not reported. In 2010, Harris Interactive conducted a survey of at least 3,800 workers. At the end of the survey it emerged that 35% of workers feel victimized by bullying (CareerBuilder). This is an average of 1,330 workers who are victims of bullying in the workplace. That's nearly half of the workers who participated in the survey, but people don't believe bullying is a problem that should be addressed for all ages. As a society we can no longer say that we are unaware of the difference between a conflict and direct and repetitive bullying. Conflict has been a part of American society since its founding, the term conflict can be traced back to 1375 meaning "to collide or disagree..." Conflict will always be... at the center of the card.... .. social support program that has the tools to be available to people of all incomes and backgrounds so that everyone has the opportunity to learn why cyberbullying is such a big problem that should be stopped. My reasoning behind this law is that, as technology advances rapidly every day with younger and younger people joining social networking sites, a law like this in every state will make parents take time to educate their children, adults will take note of the fact that they can be persecuted for the things they say and do, especially if they end in death, and that the parents of the victims will pay more attention and defend their children before it is too late. Every aspect behind this law would be worked out by the branch of Congress through legislation and then approved by the President if there was a chance that it would be created equally for each state.
