There are four skills when students learn English. These are speaking, writing, reading and listening. However, speaking and writing are different from the other two. The other two, the students, can do it on their own, by themselves, without anyone else. They can only listen to the radio and cassette. They can read a book on their own but cannot speak on their own, so productive skills should be used as much as possible in the classroom. For this reason, in my lesson plan, I have focused more on teaching productive skills where students need to produce language. To do this, I divided the lesson into stages. In this article I will reflect my first teaching experience by mentioning these stages. First, at the beginning of the lesson, I mentioned the purpose of the lesson. In this lesson the aim was to teach students that there is and there are. Then, at the end of the lesson, the students should have used there is/there are correctly. In my opinion, it is important to make sure that students understand the purpose of a lesson because they learn best when they know what they are expected to learn. In this lesson, the students clearly understood the purpose of the lesson because I first explained it to them by telling them what they would learn. So, I used a warm-up activity. It was the first phase of my lesson plan. In this warm-up activity, I brought real materials such as an apple, five knives, etc. to class. However, I brought five plastic knives instead of bringing real knives because they could cause danger in the classroom. In short, I tried to involve them in the lesson using real materials. I think this has made learning English more interesting and more memorable for students. Secondly, the second phase was the presentation phase… in the middle of the paper… together. In this lesson I often used rephrasing and rephrasing to correct student errors. For example, a student said there is an apple and I repeated that there is an apple. By the way, when students use Turkish to say something, I say it in English and reply in English too. For example, one student told me that if he started doing this, overall this lesson was mostly about teaching productive skills. In my opinion, teachers need to focus on productive skills more than receptive ones because students learn best when they produce language. I learned so much about teaching. It is our duty as teachers to find not only what motivates students to learn, but also what motivates them not to misbehave. If we can meet them at that point and take away that motivation, we can go a long way toward a more effective classroom and learning experience..
