Racial injustice is common in the modern world, especially affecting people of color. It's when someone is mistreated or discriminated against because of their race. The book The Hate U Give is written by the author Angie Thomas. In this book, the main character, Starr is trying to get justice from her best friend, Khalil, after Agent One-Fifteen killed him, however she is also dealing with her two characters. Starr faces n situations when playing basketball with Hailey and Maya and when she has the meeting with the two detectives. Two other people who are addressing racial injustice are Maverick and Khalil. Maverick faces racial injustice when cops push him to the ground to check his identity. While Khalil is facing racial injustice because he was shot by an officer and is not getting justice. Starr is playing basketball with Hailey and Maya. Hailey makes a racist comment that offends Starr, instead of helping Starr, Hailey makes herself look like the victim. The investigators don't give justice to Starr or Khalil because they keep making it seem like it's Khalil's fault that he died. Say no to plagiarism. When Starr had the meeting with investigators, they made it seem like Khalil was to blame. “Yes, ma'am. He took it out. Because he was hesitant, right?”. (Thomas 99) Detective Gomez makes it seem like Khalil is the reason he was harassed and eventually killed, making it seem like he was hesitant about the same quote, he asks if Khalil was a drug dealer or if he was part of a gang, this makes Khalil seem to be the reason for his own death. Additionally, Starr also faces further racial injustice when Hailey makes a racist comment about her while they were playing basketball. "Feverish activity! Pretend the ball is fried chicken. I bet you'll just stay there then." (Thomas 111). Starr is really angry about this because it's a stereotype Hailey used against Starr. Joke or not, Starr didn't think it was right, so she gets mad at Hailey and their friendship goes downhill from there. Furthermore, Starr once again faces racial injustice, the Grand Jury has made its decision and Officer One-Fifteen will not be punished for what he did. “If you're tuning in, the grand jury has decided not to indict Officer Brian Cruise Jr. in the death of Khalil Harris.” (Thomas 387). This shows racial injustice because Agent One-Fifteen wasn't punished because Starr is black, and because of that they didn't take her seriously enough. Starr, Seven, Chris and DeVante became angry about this and joined a nearby riot to show their anger. Starr once again faces racial injustice; she's at Maya's house arguing with Hailey and talking about how Hailey unfollowed Starr's Tumblr account because she posted about a black guy named Emmett Till. "NO. all the 'black stuff,' she called it. (Thomas 250). This quote takes place after Hailey and Starr get into an argument at Maya's house. After Hailey leaves, Maya tells Starr why Hailey stopped of following Starr's Tumblr account, this shows the racial injustice towards Starr and all black people on her Tumblr because Hailey is indirectly shading black people conclusion, I think Starr faces a lot of racial injustice, but has been overlooked because Khalil is the one who died and not her, however, she is not the only one facing racial injustice: it is her father and Khalil too.150 Topics of theessay on racismMaverick faced racial injustice when the cops put him on the ground, this happened because Maverick is black and the cops put him on the ground aggressively, Khalil also faces racial injustice when Agent One-fifteen she shoots him because he got scared and even though she would have shot him because Khalilera was black, and finally when Hailey tells Starr Khalil would have died anyway because he was a drug dealer and a gang member... or at least that's what she thought because Khalil it was black. Also, when Maverick was telling Mr. Lewis to be careful what he says, things got heated and Maverick started yelling at Mr. Lewis, then the cops came in and put Maverick on the ground. “The black officer looks at him. Lie on the ground, hands behind your back. (Thomas 193). The officer orders Maverick to get on the ground. On the same page it says the camera should be there because Maverick gets grounded because he's black. Additionally, Khalil is facing racial injustice when officer one fifteen shoots Khalil because he is black, and the officer thought Khalil was going to shoot him. "'You're okay, Starr...' Pow!" (Thomas 23). This quote shows that Agent One Fifteen killed Khalil when all he was actually doing was making sure Starr was okay. Later in the book, Officer Brian Cruise's father reveals that Officer One Fifteen was afraid that Khalil would shoot him, this shows racial injustice because the officer thought Khalil was in a gang and got scared of him and shot Khalil. Once again, Khalil was subjected to racial injustice; when Hailey sees Starr in the hallway, she starts talking about how Khalil deserved to die because she thought he was a gang member and a drug dealer because he was black. «The policeman probably did everyone a favor. One less drug dealer on the…” This quote shows that Hailey assumes that Khalil was a drug dealer because he was black. Not only that, but he also said that he deserved to die for it, which shows a lot of racial injustice because he indicated that a person deserved to die because he was black. To end the paragraph, I think that Maverick and Khalil suffered racial injustice due to cops not treating them well or someone saying Khalil deserved to die because they assumed he was a drug dealer because he was black. I think Starr, Maverick and Khalil suffer a lot of racial injustice because Starr doesn't get the outcome she deserves from the Grand Jury because she's black, Maverick got grounded because he was black, Hailey said Khalil deserved to die because she thought he was a drug dealer when it wasn't. In this regard, I want to express my opinion on racial injustice. I think racial injustice is a very ignorant and cruel thing that unfortunately exists in today's world. That said, I think if we all take action, we can decrease if not end racial injustice around the world. Works Cited Thomas, A. (2017). The hate you give. Balzer + Bray. Anderson, C. A., & Bushman, B.
