Topic > Personal experience in choosing a decision-making style

Decision making is a process of choosing a preferred option or course of action among other available alternatives, this based on certain criteria or strategies. Using theoretical models and existing literature to support my strategies, I will identify a past decision I have made and draw out the advantages and disadvantages of the decision process I have undertaken. I will evaluate this process and then improve the imperfections in my decision making. The importance of good and effective decision making by humans is easy to understand, but complexities exist when it comes to achieving it. This is because there are many elements that influence and influence an individual's decision-making style. We say no to plagiarism. I recently bought my first car at the age of 19. The decision process to purchase my car took a long period of time. I had my eye on a Volkswagen Golf but I wasn't considering any other alternatives. Within a week of finalizing on what car I wanted, I immediately went and purchased the car and had it 5 days later. From the perspective it is certainly evident that the process I undertook was not very well thought out and was very unstructured. The decision-making process undertaken can be considered very unstructured because I did not have a clear vision of how to approach the decision. It was more of an impulse purchase. The decision-making style I used can be classified using rational and non-rational decision-making approaches. Rational decision making is a tendency to make a normative decision. This means that the individual examines all alternatives, weighs the advantages and disadvantages, tries to consider all available information and finally makes a decision. A rational approach is usually adopted when individuals have a lot of time to think and their goals are clear. In contrast, a non-rational approach is one that applies to people who feel competent in the topic in question. The essential elements of a non-rational approach are subjectively voluntary choice, acceptance of other available alternatives, and awareness of the alternatives. Evidence has shown that humans are incapable of performing the mental operations assumed by the rational approach to decision making. My previous decision-making style puts me in the category of irrational decision makers. I draw on past experiences and beliefs when it comes to deciding which car to buy. According to Jervis, cognitive contortions are common. Unless I saw while driving my vehicle that there was some major problem, I wouldn't even think about looking for alternatives. The change of manufacturer would only have happened if the car was considered a failure in my eyes. My decision-making style makes me an individual who makes intuitive, but also spontaneous decisions. My decision in reference to my example was based on my instincts. With the speed of the transaction, I just want to get everything done, not think about anything else but just want the process to be over. My decision making was driven by my emotions. I am a 19 year old student who had the opportunity to buy his first car. According to ZHU and Thagard, emotions can have a significant impact on the origin of an action, its execution and its control. The result of my final decision was what can be considered a satisfactory decision. Second..
