Strength is the courage you gather to do even things that seem impossible. Every choice in life is based on previous experiences that determine your destiny. It always takes me back to my childhood, when visiting a dentist was my biggest fear. I still remember when my mother gave me her advice if you really want something you have to go out and get it, and that's why persistence defines me best. My love for science and aspiration for a medical career was reflected in fulfilling all the requirements and obtaining a scholarship from the Ministry of Higher Education to continue my studies in Science. Dentistry seemed to be the ideal career choice where my artistic abilities, skill and discipline could be utilized. Despite the obstacles and obstacles encountered along the way, with passion and perseverance, I continued working until I reached my goal and became the first dentist in my family. As a woman from Saudi Arabia, pursuing advanced studies on my own in the United States was not an easy choice, but I especially enjoy the challenge towards a rewarding goal. I went to the United States for the first time in my life in 2011, visited some dental schools and was fascinated by the education system. So, I promised myself that I would return for something even better. My dream begins to come true by winning a scholarship for postgraduate studies. Therefore, I decide to invest in myself by determining my goals in three areas: assisting a faculty in beneficial scientific research, developing clinical skills, and being effective for society through campaign events and activities. Accordingly, I conduct a study during my internship year called "Caries Detection by Visual Inspection of Newly Graduated Dentists in Riyadh City" and be the leader of my team. I presented our research at the fifth annual Research Day. Thanks to our sense of common purpose; our research study was accepted for poster presentation at AEEDC Dubai 2015, then accepted for publication in the International Journal of Oral Health and Dental Management. As a result, from this experience I learned how to write a justification for the need to carry out a research study, construct a hypothesis, and outline a general plan for data collection. One of these people was Dr. Jamal Al Sanea, a successful orthodontist who graduated from the reputable university in the United States and was my mentor in dental school. With his experiences and what I learned from him, I developed my love for the field of orthodontics and my enthusiasm and knowledge grew over time. To deepen my knowledge of the field, I participated in a shadowing program at the Department of Orthodontics. I have gained a valuable understanding of how I can provide harmony and balance between the patient's facial, dental and skeletal components, with the opportunity to observe and demonstrate appropriate analytical skills of orthodontic records. What I loved about this specialty is thinking outside the box to solve a mix of common and uncommon problems. It offers a wide variety of cases and the chance to make a real difference in the lives of patients and their families. It can be extremely rewarding to build a long-term relationship with your patient; this involves commitment and gratitude. My experience and volunteer work yes.
