1. The argument for assisted suicide is simple to see and demonstrate. In essence, it says that if assisted suicide is allowed without any principle or division, then we must allow assisted suicide to be clearly a serious case like that of “a 16-year-old suffering from a serious case of unrequited love”. First of all, we must recognize the assumption made by the Supreme Court, namely that no lines of principle can be drawn between the different cases of assisted suicide. It can be assumed that this assumption was made only because the Supreme Court fails to come up with any policy that would allow them to legalize assisted suicide. Once we know the underlying hypothesis advanced by the Court, we can demonstrate the validity of this slippery slope argument using modus tollens. The modus tollens says that if X then Y, and if not Y then not X. And with the modus tollens we will demonstrate that it is not permissible to allow assisted suicide. In our case, X means allowing assisted suicide for patients without there being any lines of principle between good and evil. and reasoning about unfavorable cases, and Y allows assisted suicide in clearly unfavorable cases. For the first case (if For the second case (if not Y then not case and not in the other. Therefore, we must not allow assisted suicide without there being lines of principle between reasoning about good and bad cases.2. The Philosopher's response to the above... half of the paper... suicide of the terminally ill patient. This argument leads us to the conclusion that even assisted suicide, according to the principle of a terminally ill person, should not be allowed, due to its moral implications (choosing it because it is cheaper). This is morally problematic since it implies that a person has a lower value: a use value of monetary value, and this is morally problematic, since we cannot place a lower value on life, since this debases it. And a debasement of life is intuitively wrong. Works Cited James, Susan Dolandson. Deadly drugs cause uproar in Oregon. 6 August 2008. 2 May 2011.
