Radiopharmaceuticals The discovery of the scintillation camera in 1961 and the discovery of 99mTc as the perfect medical tracer in 1960, led to the birth of modern nuclear medicine. Madsen M. Among these new radiopharmaceuticals, many of the introduced agents represented world-shattering advances in nuclear medicine, used for functional imaging. Because radiopharmaceuticals are radioactive, handling them requires special care. Special procedures are adopted to ensure their safe use, which is why they were previously managed in a separate area in different healthcare systems and is still adopted in several healthcare systems. Because of the problem of radioactivity, when nuclear medicine departments were consolidating and progressing, many of them adopted self-developed radiopharmaceutical policies to prevent its improper administration and to ensure its safe and effective use. At the same time, several pharmaceutical departments are in no hurry to increase stringent and escalating standards to address other problems posed by radioactive agents. The record of radiopharmaceutical use is believed to be safe, contributing to the lack of pharmaceutical errors in many...... middle of paper ......sed. Committee approval is required when adding a drug, removing or substituting a drug. If new and advanced protocols regarding drugs are suggested, approval from the pharmacy and the therapeutic committee is still required.
