Is the 5km distance really the disparity between wealth and poverty? Although they live just 5 km away from each other, the “children of apartheid”, Sylvia and Nameurena, live in contrasting worlds. Sylvia lives in the small town of Alexandra, without a mother or father to protect or comfort her. On the other hand, Nameurena lives in a private house with her family just outside Alexandra, where she enjoys luxury that she would never have been able to enjoy if apartheid were still in force. As a result, the two black South African girls evidently demonstrate distinctive individual development and identity. Although the Afrikaner government has long since been overthrown, apartheid is not yet over for thousands of black South Africans living in poverty; therefore it is vital for young students to maintain their individuality. Before watching the National Geographic documentary “Apartheid's Children,” I did not realize that even after the government was ruled by the black majority, numerous blacks still live in poverty. After watching this short but evocative documentary, I now understand the immense gap between diverse black people and how events in their lives have completely changed their circumstances and how this relates to the creation of their identity. Sylvia has various attitudes, perceptions, values and beliefs that reflect the conditions in which she lives. For example, even though she lives alone in a town full of angst, after Miss Tabia Behali, the counselor who gives love and hope, found her, her perception of school changed. Miss Behali had helped her out of the abyss and married her so that she could think optimistically. The school she once hated because of those who teased her, was not... a paper medium... bonds are based on their attitudes, perceptions, values and beliefs. What happens in a person's environment can change them completely, even in a short period of time. These changes are made in relation to the time period and the society in which he lives. If a person lives in a time of need for a specific society, this person can be the root cause of change, which can cause changes within the context. person to occur. Because Sylvia and Nameurena have lived in completely different circumstances, they have completely distinct identities and have developed in unique ways. It was particularly challenging for Sylvia to maintain her individuality because she was being influenced by too many challenges, but with Miss Behali's help, she maintained her identity. As a result, Sylvia demonstrated how to preserve our individual identity.
