Explain the responsibility of the human resources department Within any company, the human resources department is a vital functional area. The main role of the department is to ensure the well-being of employees and make sure that any problems are resolved quickly and efficiently, both internally and externally. Although this is the main function of the department, there are also a number of other roles that the Human Resources department handles within a company: Ø Developing and monitoring the employee evaluation system Ø Supervising industrial relations Ø Disciplinary management Ø Payment of salaries Ø Redundancy Ø Training and development Ø Recruitment and selection All of the above are typical functions performed by the human resources department, as they are clearly related to the employees and the problems they may have. While the above are typical functions performed by the human resources department, sometimes there are other functions specific to certain tasks that need to be addressed as they arise. HSBCI will study a part of HSBC that was formally known as MerrillLynch. Merrill Lynch was founded in 2001 and aimed to revolutionize the way investors banked. In July 2002 HSBC took over 100% ownership of Merrill Lynch and was now part of the HSBC Group. The telephone call center which has opened near Leamington Spa's 'Spa Park' has created hundreds of jobs for people in the surrounding areas. During this project I will study the functions of the human resources department at HSBC in Leamington Spa. HSBC has many internal departments, which means that communication within the company is vital. Each of these departments depends heavily on each other in the day-to-day running of the company. When recruiting, HSBC needs to ensure that it has a clear strategy to follow throughout the recruitment and selection process. As they employ a large number of people, it is important to select the right people from the start due to the costs associated with recruitment and selection. When HSBC needs to recruit large numbers of people, it uses agencies to reduce administrative work for the human resources department and generally get the job done more efficiently. Unemployment within Leamington Spa is at an all-time low and for this reason HSBC must ensure they offer attractive positions with attractive salaries to recruit successfully. This can be done through newspaper advertisements and HSBC must ensure that in these advertisements they portray the company's image in a positive light. Since the human resources department covers a large amount of tasks and functions, I decided to cover the main activities that are most important for the organization.Ø The working environment
