Topic > What is the theme of the allegory in Dante's Inferno

These lines are just one of the many spectacular passages of the Comedy. Here Dante was able to stir up controversy among readers and pushed many to think, analyze and provide their interpretations. It may simply be Dante's genius to describe his surroundings while blinded by Virgil's hands. He set the scene for the reader to allegorize his words. On the other hand, he probably just wanted to warn the reader from the dark words, but focus them to “observe the teaching” behind his verses. Another vision that illustrates a sort of religious aspect of the scene. There are many interpretations but, regardless of how one may perceive these verses, Dante truly leaves a doctrine among humans who have had the pleasure of reading his Divine.
