Justice. According to the Merriam-Websters dictionary Justice “the process or result of using laws to fairly judge and punish crimes and criminals” (Justice). In the two books, Dante's Inferno and Stoker's Dracula, different levels of fairness and morality. Dante's Inferno tells the story of many souls who were condemned to the afterlife in Hell. In Stoker's Dracula, Dracula is followed by a group who are trying to bring justice to the monster Dracula. This essay will analyze the two texts on how justice is represented in the author's writing and the character's actions. In Dante's poem, Inferno, we see that the main character, Dante, goes on a horrific journey through Hell. These damned souls were placed in Hell through God's justice towards those who had committed sins on earth. According to the poet Dante, there are nine circles of Hell. The deeper we travel through Hell, the higher the level of sin and the higher the level of punishment we see. Dante speaks to various souls in Hell and creates a sense of pity and questions the divine wisdom of God. These sinners are in Hell due to acts of violence, towards themselves and other people; or their sin of deceit, whether by being hypocritical or committing theft. In Dante Alighieri's time, fraud was considered the worst possible sin compared to today's world, where the vast majority consider violence to be the most horrible (Terr). The reason people at that time thought this way was because they believed that it was revenge that brought justice (Terr). A good example that gives us the idea that fraud is the worst kind of sin was when the poet Dante saw Lucifer or Satan in the middle of the ice field as if he too was being punished. "The King of the vast kingdom of all pain protruded with half his chest above... in the center of the card... does more damage and vampires, as Dracula did with Lucy and his brides. In the two texts Dante Alighieri's Inferno and Bram Stoker's Dracula, both have different ways of bringing justice. In Dante's Inferno, the power of God's wisdom determines whether you will go to Heaven or suffer in Hell. In Stoker's Dracula, normal humans bring justice to the Supernatural.
