Topic > Theme of madness at the heart of the narrative - 1295
Poe's creative writing techniques allow the reader to explore the many different opinions and conclusions that can be drawn about the characters in his stories. “The Tell-Tale Heart” is the perfect example of a story that allows the reader to explore the sanity, or rather madness, of the main character. The narrator of the story kills his roommate. Readers can then choose whether to do so in cold blood or through a brilliantly planned scheme. The narrator tries to assure readers that he is not a mad man and that this old man was an insignificant problem that needed to be solved. When looking closer, the reader is able to decide for himself whether the narrator was true
