Numerous studies have been conducted to create, measure, evaluate and evaluate awareness of the importance of proper hand washing in preventing outbreaks of foodborne illnesses and other diseases among health workers, young people, adults and the community at large. The recommended practice of washing hands was rarely followed by young people and adults, however they believe that hand washing is very important, as documented by many studies 2.2.1 The Behavior Change Framework (FOAM). Handwashing behavior change programs were developed, monitored and evaluated based on the Focus on Opportunities, Skills and Motivation (FOAM) framework. FOAM Other socioeconomic environments can adapt the developed FOAM framework for use in resource-poor settings. Focus, Opportunity, Ability and Motivation (FOAM) are determining factors that influence hand washing. The components of this model are presented in Figure 2. Other global health interventions have made use of the framework based on the original work proposed by Rothschild, used primarily by Population Services International (PSI). The components of the FOAM framework are:A). Focus refers to clearly identifying the action performed and who should perform it in the behavior change intervention.1. Target behavior: The definition of behavior includes not only the action to be performed (washing hands), but also the circumstance in which it is performed, for example after using the toilet or before consuming a meal.2. Target Population: The population could be workers who deliver newborns or care for newborns, who care for children under a certain age who require hand washing practices.B). Opportunity: The ability to perform a behavior including the resources needed to perform the behavior. Individuals are expected to engage in... half of the paper... provide immediate motivation to wash their hands with soap, which poses a threat.4. Intention: Planning how to wash your hands with soap is the intention. This involves purchasing soap, fetching water, or ensuring a functional handwashing station. The theory of reasoned action emphasizes that a powerful motivator of behavior is intention and a predictor of behavior change is action (19). Figure 2 contains a breakdown of the different components of the model into subcomponents. The flexibility in identifying determinants of handwashing in the framework helps program managers and researchers because the factors that influence handwashing or any behavior can be both context and context specific. Handwashing varies from country to country, determinants that operate in one country may not operate in another, and determinants of handwashing that influence one context may not influence another(19).
