50/50In my opinion the story of 50/50 was told well. The film thrived on formal and stylistic elements. The film was exceptional when it came to the formal elements of character, plot, and structure. It was also good for stylistic elements like music and cinematography. First, 50/50 was very good in the character category in the formal elements. The character development was something that really impressed me. The biggest surprise of this film is that the writer decided to focus the real heart of the story on the development of the characters. An example is the relationship between Adam and his young therapist Katherine. They are both too inexperienced to deal with things like cancer. She is clearly inexperienced because Adam is one of her first patients. Their relationship should support the emotional side of an argument, rather than simply emotion. But the biggest relationship is between Adam and Kyle. Now, this relationship isn't as strong as it should be, but it's enough to warm the heart and give Adam the final push to open up. There's a great scene in the movie where Adam stays with Kyle and finds a book about surviving cancer, full of notes and underlines, showing that Kyle cares for Adam and is worried about him. The next day, while Kyle drives Adam to the hospital, Adam hugs Kyle because he is a good friend. It's a great demonstration of subtle character development. Secondly, 50/50 had a very good plot and structure. I thought it was very well written. When I looked up some facts about the movie, I found out that it was based on a true story. The person the film is based on is also the writer. Personally I believe that a good story can also arise from an experience such as surviving cancer. ......middle of paper......macaroons. The frame was a little wobbly and the image was blurry. It was like I was high on Adam. In conclusion, 50/50 has formal and stylistic elements. Claudia Puig of USA Today said, "50/50 convincingly demonstrates that deep emotions and wide-ranging humor can coexist in the same movie, just as they can in real life." This movie makes you laugh and can actually make you cry. It's a fantastic film that proves that you can't take on something this big alone. It takes two and maybe more. A good film is a story that is worth telling and that is told well. 50/50 is a beautiful story written in the first person by someone who experienced the film. The writer puts us in his shows and the director does a great job describing everything. The music, cinematography, characters and plot all blended together to create one great story that made you laugh and cry.
