Jeremiah was a prophet of God. A prophet of God is someone who conveys God's words and message to his people, even though this may sometimes happen unintentionally. Jeremiah warned the people of Judah that there was an imminent invasion due to their abandonment of God. Jeremiah was born the son of a Jewish priest named Hilkiah. He grew up in the village of Anatoth. His prophetic work occurred under the reign of Josiah. Jeremiah was called as a prophet in 626 BC God first called to prophesy the invasion and destruction of Jerusalem. The invasion would come from invaders from the North. He gave this prophecy shortly before the exile and invasion. This invasion prophecy was caused by the people of Judah and Israel worshiping false gods and not following the Ten Commandments.
