After middle school, I moved back to the Bay Area. It was my freshman year of high school when I took my first Advanced Placement (AP) course and got the surprise of my life. I took the course not because I wanted to, but because it was required of me. It was in this class that I was assigned a teacher who exceeded the standards of what a great teacher should be. From the beginning of the course, he made an effort to build some sort of relationship with each individual in the class. We were encouraged to build a sense of community within the classroom. This sense of community allowed us students to learn from each other and created a feeling of importance in the classroom. This teacher showed me that we all have something to offer.
