The Blind Side is written and directed by John Lee Hancock and is a true story based on the book The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game by Michael Lewis. The plot presents the life of young Michael Ohery. The film takes viewers on a journey with Oher through his troubled childhood, through his years at Briarcrest Christian School, his adoption by the Tuohy family, his college recruitment, and finally a position on the Ole Miss football team. The film is set in Memphis, Tennessee. The Blind Side emphasizes the importance of family, love, acceptance, “doing the right thing” as Leigh Ann Tuohy says, and mercy. Tuohy's actions and Michael's story are not fiction and this account will be shared around the world. Glory be to God. It is said that actions speak louder than words, that people will be remembered for what they do and how they love far more than what they say. The innate transformative power of God's love is witnessed through the Tuohy family's acceptance, compassion, support, and perseverance. Throughout much of his childhood, 17-year-old Michael Oher lived in foster homes. After being placed with a new family, Mike would often run away to a friend's house where we would sleep on their couch. This friend's father once decided to talk to a coach at Wingate Christian School for assistance in getting his son and Mike enrolled in the school. Coach Colton was impressed with Mike's size and athletic ability, but Mike's academic results were poor. Putting that aside, the coach felt that Mike needed to be at Wingate and admitting it was the right thing to do. When talking to the other board members, Coach Colton says “Christian! Either we take this seriously or we pay... middle of paper... mother and no one, not even Mike, knows who his father is. Sean, Leigh Ann, Collins and SJ accept Mike as he is, with his poor academic performance and without knowing his excellent athletic abilities. They show him love and mercy because they see that he has no one to support him in this way. At first they believe that he needs them, but then they discover that they need him too. This movie teaches people to go the extra mile. It shows that there is more to life than donating, paying for a meal, or volunteering at a shelter. This story is an example for Christians to open their arms to those who need shelter, food and love. And if that happens, then others will be able to see Christ shining through them.
