People guided by cardinal virtues who were right were considered wise because their rational attitudes worked well. Being called wise allowed a person to have psychological comfort, which prepared him or her for a good afterlife. Unwise people had a wrong conception of what was good for them. People created personal courage when their spirited attitudes remained fearless in moments of pain and pleasure and they managed to remain rational. Faced with future sorrows, cowardly people were unable to bear the logic of it. Simply being helped people avoid situations that determine their courage. Furthermore, being made a temperate or moderate individual when the different parts of the individual's soul agree. People were right when all three parts of their soul functioned as required. Justice brought virtue to the righteous people in front of everyone, while the unjust people failed to be moderate, wise and
