INTRODUCTION TO THE COMPANY Reckitt Benckiser plc is a global British consumer goods company, manufacturing and marketing healthcare, home and personal care products. The company is headquartered in Slough, near London, UK; The company was formed by the merger of the British company Reckitt & Colman and the Dutch company Benckiser NV in December 1999. It operates in more than 60 countries, including 42 manufacturing facilities, and has sales in nearly 200 countries. HISTORY In 1814 a mill called 'Colman's was established in Norwich, England and in 1840 "Reckitt & Sons", a starch mill, was founded. In 1938 the two firms merged to form "Reckitt & Colman". Subsequently, in December 1999, "Reckitt & Colman" merged with the Dutch company "Benckiser NV". “Reckitt” and “Benckiser” both began life in the 19th century only to merge over 100 years later to become the world's largest household cleaning products group. In October 2005, Reckitt Benckiser Company agreed to purchase BOOTS Group's over-the-counter drug manufacturing business, BOOTS Healthcare International. The three main brands acquired were NUROFEN, STREPSILS AND CLEARASIL. The company has achieved Platinum Benckiser status in business. In the corporate CR index, from 2005 to 2009 it entered the DOW JONES Sustainability World Index and the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index. In January 2008, the company acquired Adams Respiratory Therapeutics. The Disprin product should be marketed as a natural pain inhibitor rather than a drug. RECOMMENDATIONS • The company should consider automating the secondary packaging of disprin (600) as it would save time and less labor would be required for the job. • Reckitt & Benckiser should also consider establishing its manufacturing unit in other major cities of Pakistan such as Lahore and Faisalabad, thus reducing the transportation costs incurred in delivering its products across Pakistan from just one factory in Karachi. • The company should include a flyer with the Disprin small consumer awareness box that contains detailed information about the product; so that consumers feel satisfied with their choice since it is a pain reliever sold over the counter.
