Africa has been an interesting place of conflict. From the conflict between Ethiopia and Eritrea to the revolutionary conflict in Libya and Egypt, one of the largest conflicts is the Rwandan genocide. The Rwandan genocide included two tribes in Rwanda: the Tutsi and the Hutu. In revenge, the Hutus massacred many Tutsis and other Hutus who supported the Tutsis. This gruesome war lasted 100 days. There have been many devastating effects on Rwanda and the global community to date. Also, many people did not have much recognition for the genocide, but many lessons were learned from this genocide around the world. To find the cause of the Rwandan genocide, many people had tried to follow the path of history from Rwandan colonialism to the Rwandan genocide. Belgium wanted to expand just like other powerful nations such as Britain, Spain, and France due to the lack of space and resources provided to each nation in Europe. After the great discovery of Vasco de Gamma, many Europeans ventured towards Africa to colonize territories. After the Berlin Conference of 1884, Belgium had colonized the territory of Rwanda. After colonization, they left the leadership to the Tutsis instead of the Hutus because the Belgians thought that the Tutsis had Caucasian origins. After Rwanda's independence, power passed to the Hutus. After power was given to the Hutus, the Hutus took revenge on the Tutsis by causing some killings. In the movie Hotel Rwanda, President Habyarimana was killed. The killing was blamed on the Tutsis, which prompted the enraged Hutus to start the Rwandan genocide. While the initial cause of the genocide may have been Belgian imperialism, in the film it was actually murder... middle of paper... be more aware of conflicts and how to prevent them. Many lessons could be learned from these conflicts. First of all, you need to try to make a positive change in your environment. You shouldn't just leave your environment knowing that you can make a positive change in it. During the Rwandan genocide, the United Nations decided to break its own ethics and do the exact opposite. Many soldiers said they were peacekeepers and not peacemakers. Second, people should learn that the decisions they make will have an effect throughout life and after life. The two tribes that went to war with each other did not realize the effects their actions would have on future generations. From these lessons perhaps current and future generations could learn about the dark historical moments of past generations and how to prevent this type of history from repeating itself..
