Purpose. The purpose of the first study is to find out whether overweight women experience greater weight stigma in job interviews than women of normal weight. There are two hypotheses. Because many blue-collar jobs (e.g., teaching, restaurant) tend to have a higher percentage of overweight women than white-collar jobs (CITE), we hypothesize that overweight women interviewed for blue-collar jobs will not feel a greater weight stigma compared to women of normal age. weight. Second, we hypothesize that overweight women interviewed for white-collar jobs will feel significantly greater weight stigma than normal-weight women. Participants. Because the research revealed no significant weight stigma against men, participants in the first study will be women. To have a large enough sample, we would need at least 80 participants, that is, 20 participants in each of the four conditions. Participants will be recruited with newspaper advertisements, flyers, radio ads, and social media in several major cities and the surrounding 50-mile radius. This is intended to enable the participation of women from a variety of cultures and lifestyles. Specific job offers will not be listed in the adverts; rather, recruiting materials will indicate that an employer is hiring in a number of positions, and readers will be asked to call to schedule an interview. Since only women will be attending, any men who call will be told that there are no positions available for which they can interview. Upon arriving for the interview, participants will be placed into one of two job conditions: blue-collar jobs (defined as teacher, housekeeper, nanny, factory worker, etc.) or clerical jobs (e.g. administration, management, or scientific and PR...... half the work ......or more than 45 minutes, although the duration depends on the length of the participant's answers to the questions. Three classes of employees measures will be collected after the interview: (1 ) participants' ratings of their mood and self-esteem after the interview, which will be measured with participants' PANAS, WISE-Q and EMCA-Q (2); attitudes towards the interviewer, using the warmth and attentiveness scales and the adjective checklist and (3) the interview performance measure. PANAS and WISE-Q will be used to measure the mood change experienced by the participant during the interview; To obtain the mood change score, the Pre-interview PANAS score will be subtracted from post-interview PANAS score. Likewise, the pre-interview WISE-Q score will be subtracted from the post-interview WISE-Q score for the change in self-esteem score.
