Intro: Communication Theories, is a course that has allowed me to further gain a much better perspective and has also broadened my understanding and knowledge of some of the major theories. I appreciate that over the course of the semester this course really did an admirable job introducing me to a variety of well-known and widely studied theories in the field of communication. One of the most important things I learned from this course was how the course pushed me to learn how to apply some theories to my life in a practical way through some class activities, readings, group work, presentations and assignments. In the following article I will cover three main aspects. I will start by introducing all the members of my family and describing them a little individually. I will then talk about the five theories that I have selected and that I can apply to myself and my family. I will then describe each of the five theories, provide an example of my family's experience that applies to the theories, and provide an analysis of the experience using the theory. And finally, I will share with you my conclusions, which will basically wrap up all the things I learned from writing this article. Family: In my immediate family, there are 5 members in our household. We as a family have lived in Bloomington, Minnesota for about 10 years. My father Brian, who is in his fifties, works for the Toro company, where he is in charge of the finance department. My stepmother Roxanne, who is in her mid-40s, is employed by the government where she works as a security guard. My younger brother Niles who is 20 years old and is currently enrolled in a community college in Minneapolis, Minnesota. My youngest... central part of the article... of emotion regulation theory is meta-emotion, or one's emotions about emotions. In the classroom text, it is proposed that meta-emotional structure is an important factor and influence in children's developmental outcomes (Cupach & Olson, p. 214). Theory no. 5: Communication Privacy Management Theory: Understanding Families. Definition: This theory is about managing the privacy that family members within a family must make decisions about how much information to share and how much to keep private from other family members. This is a complex but important theory. Privacy is essential to family functioning (Petronio & Caughlin, p. 36). The theory of privacy in communication is practical and is built to allow applications that give us the opportunity to understand the problems and everyday events that people encounter in families (Petrino and Caughlin).
