Building the Main Arguments The advantages of a large number of immigrants are evident in almost every area of life. Their overall contribution to the overall economy is positive and the improvements in the quality of the workforce are also quite noteworthy. First, let's look at something that is indisputable in economics. Even those who argue that immigration is not beneficial must still accept the fact that overall the US gross domestic product (GDP) is increasing. Camarota Steven Immigration Studies Center (Immigration and the US Economy 2010), an immigration opponent, says GDP increased 0.24%. This may seem small and insignificant, but remember that the US population is very large and GDP is not the only thing an economy gains from bringing in more foreign labor. Senator Larry Obhof (The irrational of force? An economic analysis of US immigration law) calls for a policy that increases the ease with which immigrant workers from countries like Mexico can come to work in the United States. It states the following points: (1) Increase the quality of the workforce, (2) bring new ideas and know-how to US companies, which can lead to innovation, (3) transfer new skills and knowledge to native colleagues, ( 4 ) increase diversity in the workplace…” Now let's take the time to look at each of these points individually. Increasing the quality of the workforce can be seen as many things. To begin with we could say that it refers to the nice compliment that immigrants pay to the native workforce. According to the Immigration Policy Center (The Power of Diversity, 2010), the immigrant population... middle of paper... employees, then is trying to develop a new machine to maximize efficiency that reduces the cost of labor. product and increases the amount that can be made with the fewest number of employees. Regardless of the situation, the company will still try to achieve balance and however they try it will prove beneficial. It may not seem beneficial because the lower class didn't get jobs, but if the overall cost of something goes down, then anyone who buys that product will be positively affected. Overall, the native citizens who have been so unfortunately trapped in the underclass within the class United States will likely remain trapped. Their quality of life will increase, but they will remain poor. Immigrants are a huge asset to the nation and the small costs are for the greater good of everyone involved in the economic system.
