April 20, 1999 began as a normal Tuesday morning in Littleton, Colorado for Columbine High School students who attended school unaware of the massacre that awaited their future. Two of the current students, Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris, will devastate a community and open the eyes of the entire country. The boys killed twelve classmates and a teacher before taking their own lives in a similar way. Additionally, nearly a year later in Boston, Massachusetts, an Edgewater Technology application support employee, Michael McDermott, killed seven of his coworkers with an AK-47, a 12-gauge rifle, and a .32 caliber pistol. Surprisingly, he did not commit suicide as in the previous story and was therefore convicted of seven counts of first degree murder. What is the connection between these two massacres other than the fact that they both happened on a Tuesday? Eric Harris of the Columbine massacre and Michael McDermott of the Wakefield massacre were prescribed antidepressant drugs before and during their manic slaughter of the people they saw almost every day. After the Columbine massacre, the medical examiner discovered therapeutic quantities of the over-the-counter drug Luvox, while Michael McDermott was found to be consistently taking a similar serotonergic drug. Although these powerful drugs were found, they were dismissed as probable causes in the massacre with other motives and overbearing drives to commit murder. It was determined that McDermott's motive was that his boss was garnishing his paycheck for the IRS to pay off the taxes he owed. Harris' motive was consistent bullying.
