Topic > Ulrich Team Project—Lemuel Shattuck Hospital - 701

Lemuel Shattuck, teacher, historian, statistician, publisher, and visionary, founded Lemuel Shattuck Hospital in 1869. His plan was the first to identify major public health problems, including the recommendation to establish accurate maintenance of medical records and vital public health statistics for use as tools to combat disease. In 1869, his vision led to the creation of the nation's first State Board of Health, established in Massachusetts. To accomplish its mission, Lemuel Shattuck Hospital provides compassionate medical and psychiatric care to patients who need multidisciplinary care and supports that promote their health, well-being, rehabilitation and recovery. The private Faulkner and Boston Medical Center hospitals are often compared to Lemuel Shattuck Hospital, a public hospital. Due to financial stability, they provide facilities to other state agencies. For example, the hospital provides a holding cell for the Department of Corrections. Shattuck Hospital also provides inpatient health services to inmates on the facility's eighth floor. However, private detox programs are usually operated or outsourced by other hospitals. On the other hand, Lemuel Shattuck's inpatient services include adult health care not only for immigrants and homeless men and women, but also for multiple diagnoses, correctional care, addictions and mental health. Lemuel Shattuck Human Resources Department on-site staff includes Benefits and Leave Coordinator, Customer Service Coordinator, Employment and Personnel Coordinator, Employment Services Manager, Labor Relations Manager, Payroll Supervisor and personnel and payroll coordinator. Their HR department provides customer service and support for a...... half of paper ......not practicing all four with the same weight distribution. Employees with poor training, poor education or poor work ethic may not be a good fit even at low wages. The type of strategic partner continually defines the strategic narrative of the company, past, present and future. The administrative expert focuses on people and business issues. The employee champion strengthens employee voice throughout the organization. Disappointed employees should be given the opportunity to speak out and be heard through employee engagement surveys or roundtables and should not fear retaliation. The change agent type makes changes quickly and has a point of reference to show how what has improved and how it is effective. In short, there is a synergistic relationship between all four types of HR best practices: strategic partner, administrative expert, employee champion and change agent.
