The Effects of Media on Our Lives Social scientists say the average American watches too much television and plays too many video games. I would agree with this, because in high school that's all I did, but it's not that much for me anymore. When I was in high school that's all I did. Watching television, playing Nintendo, hanging out with my friends. However, now that I'm in college, I've had to change my ways. It helps a lot that I don't have one in my dorm. But media is a really good thing. It helps us transmit messages back and forth. It is a great source of communication. Inform people about what's happening in our community and around the world. However, the media can also be a very bad thing. Sometimes it is used against people. It may convey a different message than the one shown. It can make people seem really bad when in reality they are just good people. How is it possible that the media can influence our lives so much? Why do we have to hear all these terrible stories from the media? I think there should be a new national law that journalists can only tell good, moving stories and leave out the bad stuff. I don't think anyone wants to hear bad news during the day. The definition of communication is the process of sharing information. This information is both bad and good. For example, the media covering the war in Iraq seems to tell us all the bad news that is happening, but we never seem to hear anything good that is happening. Why? Why don't the media talk to us about the soldiers' construction of schools and hospitals? Or maybe a group of soldiers saved fifty lives by dismantling a car bomb or something? It's... middle of paper... others go to their website and can listen to that music. Finally, mobile phones have also influenced our lives and media. What would the world do without cell phones? The real question is: what would I do without my cell phone? People use these devices to talk all day without saying a single word. Isn't that just amazing? Now you can do more with a phone than ever before. You can stay in bed all day and accomplish as many things with just your phone as if you went to the office and used the computer. In conclusion, I believe that Americans rely far too much on the media in their lives. Why can't we live without media? People have been living on this earth for thousands of years without it, why do we need it? This is the question that will remain pending for years, but the worst thing is that the world of media has only just started to grow.
